Subject: DEPARTMENTAL SECURITY

 

A. POLICY

The hospital will make reasonable efforts to provide security to the employees working in the pharmacy as well as provide security for the drug stock.

B. EMPLOYEE SECURITY

  1. The inpatient pharmacy department shall not be identified by public signs.
  2. Access to the inpatient pharmacy is limited to pharmacy employees via their bar-coded ID badge.
  3. All entry doors in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies shall be locked.
  4. Only pharmacists shall have keys to the pharmacy.
  5. Panic alarms are located in the outpatient and inpatient areas. All employees shall know their locations and be instructed in how to use them.
  6. Security cameras are located in the outpatient and inpatient areas.

C. DRUG SECURITY

  1. Controlled substances bulk storage will be in a limited access vault.
  2. All areas of bulk storage of drugs are locked after normal working hours.

a.    Anyone accessing the bulk storage in inpatient pharmacy after hours must use a bar-coded ID Badge.  ID badges are assigned at the time of hire and are managed by the UAMS police.

b.    Security cameras film all after hours entry to the bulk storage, the OPC pharmacy, and inpatient narcotic vault.  Security cameras film areas in the inpatient pharmacy, the pharmacy stockroom, and OPC pharmacy.

c.    Any activity after 7:00 p.m. in the OPC pharmacy or 20 minutes after authorized access in inpatient bulk storage will set off an alarm in Hospital Central Control. All alarms are personally investigated by Central Control.
