FEE CODESPOLICY
A nomenclature shall be established for each item distributed or dispensed by the hospital pharmacy. This nomenclature shall be distinctive and quantitative. A specific Fee Code Number shall be assigned each nomenclature.
A. Fee Code Number Series
The hospital pharmacy is assigned the 12XX-XXXX series Fee Codes. Numbers and nomenclatures are activated in 120-XXXX, 1201-XXXX, 1202-XXXX and 1203-XXXX. All fee code assignments made by the pharmacy shall be provided to clinical programs, financial management department.
1. 120-XXXX is for general hospital pharmacy revenue accounting. Fee Codes in this series are established by the clinical programs, financial management department.
2. 1201-XXXX designate charges for drug items distributed or dispensed by the inpatient hospital pharmacy. Items are identified in the smallest unit of use or issue.
3. 1202-XXXX identifies a parenteral fluid or an IV set.
4. 1203-XXXX are used for food supplements and enteral nutritional products
B. Fee Code Pricing
1. Each Fee Code shall be assigned a specific price. Pricing is done in accordance with the procedures stated in Section 4:01 of this manual.
2. Pricing shall be updated with each First Data Bank/Multum Update. Items not priced by FDB/Multum shall be reviewed at least annually. All price changes will be coordinated with the clinical Programs, Financial Management Department.
C. Fee Code Number Assignments
1. A separate and distinctive Fee Code Number shall be assigned each nomenclature. The code number shall identify this nomenclature while the item is in inventory.
2. An unused Fee Code Number shall be assigned when a new nomenclature is added.
3. A Fee Code Number is retired from use when the item or nomenclature is deleted from inventory. This Fee Code Number shall remain inactive for the remainder of the fiscal year. At the beginning of the next fiscal year the Fee Code Number can be reassigned.
D. The Fee Code Manual
1. An official record of fee code numbers and nomenclature is maintained by Clinical Programs, Financial Management Department and is furnished monthly to the department.
2. All listings of drugs in the pharmacy computer shall include the fee code number in the description.
