Subject: EMPLOYEE PRESCRIPTIONS

A. Policy

Outpatient prescriptions of UAMS employees, students and their immediate family members can be filled and dispensed by the Pharmacy. These will normally be dispensed from the Outpatient Pharmacy. The Hospital Pharmacy can dispense employee prescriptions only when the OPC Pharmacy is closed.

B. Procedure - In Patient

1. Prescriptions must be brought to the pharmacy by the sponsor or family member with proper UAMS identification.

2. The full amount of the prescription can be dispensed.

3. "NO REFILLS" will be authorized on prescriptions dispensed by the in-patient pharmacy.

4. Prescriptions are priced by using the cost of the drug plus an employee pricing formula.

5. Payment for the prescription(s) will be made in the Emergency Room. The pharmacist will give the bill to the patient. This bill must be paid to the Cashier in the Emergency Room. A receipt from the Cashier is brought to the hospital pharmacy. The prescription is then dispensed to the patient.

C. Procedure - Out Patient

1. Prescription for UAMS employees and retired employees will be filled during working hours for the out patient pharmacy

2. Employee prescriptions will be accepted from non-UAMS physicians.

3. When requested by the employee, non-formulary drugs will be ordered to fill employee prescriptions.

4. The Outpatient Pharmacy offers a delivery service to UAMS employees if their office is located on campus.

5. Employees are given a discount off of the usual and customary price of the prescription.
