Subject: INTERDEPARTMENTAL ORDERS

A. POLICY

The Pharmacy Department, through the pharmacy stockroom, supplies drugs, selected chemicals, solvents, flammable substances and other materials to other departments in the clinical programs, researchers, the colleges on the UAMS campus, other state health care facilities and authorized governmental agencies. Such products required in the out-patient center may be obtained from the out-patient pharmacy.

B. PROCEDURE

1. Interdepartmental orders are not part of the dispensing process and will not be accepted or filled by dispensing pharmacists.

2.Interdepartmental orders are normally filled and distributed on Mondays and Thursdays.

3. Orders may be sent tot he pharmacy on any day. Orders received before 10:00 a..m. on Mondays or Thursdays will be filled and delivered to the requestor (on campus) that afternoon.

4. Small orders or emergency orders needed on a non-scheduled basis may be brought to the pharmacy supply area by 12:00 noon and picked up by 4:00 p.m. the same day. Orders brought after noon will be ready the following work day by 10:00 a.m.

5. Orders are normally filled, charged and delivered by the assigned Pharmacy Assistants in the supply area.

6. Walk-in orders for immediate pick-up will be discouraged.

C. SPECIAL ORDERS

1. Drug items or other supplies not commonly stocked will be ordred only if the interdepartmental order is signed by the Department Head and prior contract with the Pharmacy Director or a Pharmacist Supervisor has been made.

2. The ordering department is charged for the entire quantity ordered and all freight or special shipping charges encountered. If the item is a flammable, the pharmacy will store those quantities that are in excess of working quantities kept in the departmental area.

3. If a controlled substance (Schedule III, IV, V) is ordered, the interdepartmental order must be signed by a licensed physician and his/her DEA number must be included on the order. All Schedule II orders must be accompanied by a DEA form 222.
