CEFTAZIDIME
Guidelines for Use
Ceftazidime is indicated for use in the following conditions:
Sensitivities reported by laboratory indicate that other more specific
antibiotics are unsuitable for treatment and ceftazidime is active against the organism.
Pseudomonas meningitis.
Pseudomonas pneumonias.
Pseudomonas sepsis in combination with aminoglycoside.
Empiric therapy along with an aminoglycoside in neutropenic patients who are allergic to penicillin.
Ceftazidime is not indicated or approved for use at the University Hospital for:
Prophylaxis of any kind.
Mixed infections with suspected anaerobes.
Infection due to gram-positive organisms.
Dose:
30-50 mg/kg/day in divided usually every 8 hours. Adjust dosage in renally impaired patients.
Maximum dose 6 gm/day.
