Research & Scholarly Interests

For more than three decades, my research has been focused on radiation effects in normal tissues, specifically the gastrointestinal tract and the cardiovascular system. My overall goal is to determine underlying mechanisms and develop strategies to prevent side effects of radiation therapy in cancer survivors. I am also actively involved in the development of medical countermeasures against radiological and nuclear threats, as well as in space radiation research.
