Pharmacy Fellowships

This is a is a 2-year program that is designed to provide the fellow with clinical, research, and teaching skills in this specialty area so that upon completion the fellow will be prepared to help initiate or add to existing Antimicrobial Stewardship programs with their future employment.

Arkansas Children’s Hospital and UAMS College of Pharmacy Fellowship in Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship & Infectious Diseases

Background

The Fellowship in Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infectious Diseases (AS/ID) at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy is a 2-year program that is designed to provide the fellow with clinical, research, and teaching skills in this specialty area so that upon completion the fellow will be prepared to help initiate or add to existing Antimicrobial Stewardship programs with their future employment.

Fellows will be exposed to AS/ID at ACH in Little Rock and at the new northwest campus in Springdale remotely. Fellows will also be participating with state-wide stewardship in combination with our health department and nationally through the SHARPS (Sharing Antimicrobial Reports for Pediatric Stewardship) Collaborative. Support will also be given for the fellow to take additional courses through the UAMS College of Public Health that could end with a Master’s degree. Courses will be selected based on fellow’s research interests. Degrees that could be sought include a Master’s in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or Health Policy and Management.

Additional Responsibilities/Projects Throughout the Year

  • 1st year- 1 Pharmacy staffing weekend and 1 Clinical call TDM weekend coverage each month
  • 2nd year- 2 Clinical call TDM coverage weekends/month
  • Clinical coverage one major and one minor holiday weekend
  • Therapeutics Recitation one semester per year
  • Assist in Pediatric and ID Elective Courses
