Background
The PGY2 Population Health Management and Data Analytics (PHMDA) Residency Program through the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy trains the resident to integrate health information, evidence-based medicine (EBM), outcomes measurement, and data analytics to inform decisions for population health management. The resident gains experience creating, implementing, and optimizing population health initiatives with our EBRx program, and scholarship with our Pharmacy Evaluation and Policy Division, both operated out of the College of Pharmacy. In addition, the UAMS Medical Center, which uses EPIC electronic health record, and the Healthplan PBM provide learning experiences in quality improvement, clinical informatics, and pharmacy claims management. The resident will teach in EBM and U.S. Healthsystem courses within the pharmacy curriculum. Upon successful completion of the program, the resident is awarded a Residency Certificate.
The purpose of the PHMDA residency is to build upon the PGY1 residency graduate’s competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and support of optimal medication therapy outcomes. The residency trains pharmacists to integrate health information, evidence-based medicine, outcomes measurement, and data analytics to inform decisions surrounding pharmacy services and population health management. Graduates are adept in discovering and optimizing synergy between clinical knowledge, information technology, and pharmaceutical operations, equipping them to function in a multifaceted professional environment and lead change to improve patient outcomes.
Graduates of this program will become skilled in concepts of population health management, applied pharmacoeconomic principles, and data analytics, thereby enabling them to create, implement, and optimize population health care initiatives designed to improve health outcomes of patients covered by government, managed care, or public/private health care systems, agencies, companies, and organizations.
