Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the UAMS Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. We are part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary research field that integrates fundamental principles of chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and properties of products derived from nature to develop new drug treatments and to optimize delivery of drugs to the body to design new and improved therapies against human disease.
Our department mission is threefold: 1) to perform innovative research in areas of medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, natural compounds, and the radiation sciences, 2) to provide competitive master’s and PhD degrees in our areas of expertise, and 3) to provide pharmacy students with the basic skills and knowledge they need to tackle their clinical coursework and become strong and compassionate pharmacists.
The department has a diverse faculty that contribute to one or more facets of our mission and maintain close collaborations with each other and with other units on the UAMS campus.
The COBRE Center for Studies of Host Response to Cancer Therapy is administered through the Division of Radiation Health and provides opportunities for research funding and mentoring to junior faculty.
Our Master’s/PhD program has a variety of coursework and research experiences to offer and can prepare students for a career in academia but also industry or regulatory affairs. A track to obtain dual PharmD and PhD degrees is also offered.
