Research Interests
Dr. Cesar M. Compadre’s research focuses on the discovery and development of bioactive compounds from natural sources and the application of molecular modeling to understand and optimize their biological activity. His work integrates pharmacognosy with advanced computational drug design, using quantitative structure–activity relationships (QSAR) and computer-aided modeling to guide the development of novel therapeutics. Over his career, Dr. Compadre has more than 100 publications,12 US patents, and over 60 international patents, the majority of which have been licensed for commercialization. Dr. Compadre was the lead inventor of CecureÒ an FDA-approved antimicrobial technology that is widely used in the food industry. He is also a co-founder of Tocol Pharmaceuticals, a company translating vitamin E analogs and other natural product derivatives into therapeutic and radioprotective agents. His research has led to advances in anticancer, antimicrobial, and radioprotective drug discovery, reflecting his enduring commitment to transforming natural product chemistry into impactful medical innovations. Dr. Compadre teaches Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry, and he is the UAMS coordinator of the UALR/UAMS Bioinformatics Graduate Program. Dr. Compadre has been the primary mentor of over 20 graduate students.
