Research Interests

Dr. Thakur’s research interests lie at the intersection of analytical chemistry, bioanalytical science, toxicology, and regulatory science, with a focus on developing advanced mass spectrometry-based approaches to address complex biomedical, environmental, and public health challenges. Throughout his academic career, he has investigated the occurrence, transformation, biological effects, and risk implications of diverse chemical exposures using state-of-the-art chromatographic and mass spectrometric technologies.

His research expertise includes the development and validation of targeted and untargeted analytical workflows using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS), gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), and complementary analytical platforms for the ultra-trace detection and quantification of xenobiotics, metabolites, and emerging contaminants. During his doctoral and postdoctoral research, he developed innovative analytical methodologies for the characterization of environmental contaminants, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plasticizers, tobacco-related chemicals, and biologically relevant molecules in complex matrices including environmental samples, food products, biological samples, and consumer products.

His current research focuses on bioanalytical applications, exposomics, chemical characterization and regulatory toxicology. This work integrates targeted quantitative analysis, non-targeted chemical profiling, exposure assessment, and risk evaluation to generate scientific evidence supporting public health policies and regulatory decision-making. At the UAMS Bioanalytical Core, his scholarly interests extend toward advancing analytical capabilities that enable biomedical discovery through collaborative research. He is particularly interested in developing highly sensitive and robust analytical methods for the characterization of endogenous metabolites, hormones, pharmaceuticals, environmental chemicals, and other small molecules relevant to human health and disease.

His long-term research goal is to integrate innovative mass spectrometry technologies, metabolomics/exposomics approaches, and interdisciplinary collaborations to improve understanding of chemical exposures, biological responses, and disease mechanisms while providing reliable analytical solutions for translational research.
