Research & Graduate Education

We are a research and graduate education division in the UAMS College of Pharmacy. We seek to generate real-world evidence on the value, safety, effectiveness, and policy impact of medications and pharmacy services—and to train the next generation of scientists through the PEP Track of the Pharmaceutical Sciences M.S. and Ph.D.

What We Study

  • Pharmacoepidemiology & Real-World Evidence (observational methods; large databases; EHR-linked analytics)
  • Health Economics & Health Technology Assessment (cost-effectiveness and budget impact modeling; value assessment)
  • Comparative Effectiveness & Implementation Science (pragmatic and applied evaluations)
  • Medical Device Evidence (performance and safety using real-world data infrastructures)
  • Substance Use, Pain, & Mental Health (opioid policy; OUD treatment; outcomes in vulnerable populations)
  • Cancer Outcomes & Quality of Care
  • Data Integration & Analytics

How We Work

We take an applied, collaborative approach—partnering with health systems, the VA, public agencies, payers, and industry—to deliver rigorous, decision-ready evidence that informs clinical practice and policy.

Come Learn with Us

The PEP track within the Pharmaceutical Sciences M.S. and Ph.D. programs blends core methods (epidemiology, biostatistics/econometrics, health economics, policy analysis) with electives aligned to each trainee’s interests. Students engage in seminars, mentored research, and thesis/dissertation work that prepares them for careers across academia, government, health systems, payers, consulting, and the life sciences. UAMS Pharm.D. students may pursue a coordinated Pharm.D./MS pathway in the PEP Track. The option integrates graduate methods training with the professional curriculum and culminates in completions of a thesis.
