UAMS PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at Harps Food Stores

Founded in 1930 in Springdale, Arkansas, Harps Food Stores has grown into the largest employee-owned company in the region, with over 80 stores across Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency at Harps offers a distinctive experience that blends the personalized care of small-town pharmacy with the strategic innovation of a multi-store regional chain. This program is ideal for pharmacists who want to practice at the intersection of independent and corporate pharmacy—where meaningful patient relationships meet scalable clinical impact.

Innovation in Clinical Services Harps Pharmacy has long been a pioneer in advancing community pharmacy services. Notably: Harps developed MTM: The Future Today, a nationally recognized training program focused on implementing medication therapy management (MTM) services in community settings. In 2016, Harps partnered with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to offer this program as continuing education for pharmacists across the country.

Leadership in Practice Transformation Residents work directly with the Clinical Services Team, contributing to:

  • Telemedicine initiatives
  • Protocol development
  • Launching new patient care projects
  • Expanding access to care in rural and underserved communities

Professional Growth & Impact Throughout the residency, pharmacists gain experience in:
