UAMS PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy

The residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Outpatient Pharmacy offers a dynamic and comprehensive experience within an academic health system. Residents are immersed in a high-volume outpatient pharmacy that serves patients being discharged from the hospital, emergency department, and outpatient clinics. With access to both outpatient and specialty pharmacy services, residents gain exposure to a wide range of clinical, operational, and leadership opportunities.

Collaborative Patient Care

Residents are integral members of the interprofessional care team and actively contribute to patient care through:

  • Educating patients on medications, vaccinations, and adherence strategies
  • Providing dispensing services for ambulatory and discharged patients
  • Delivering transition-of-care and discharge counseling to promote safe and effective medication use
  • Conducting Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and supporting chronic disease management
  • Administering immunizations to patients and UAMS staff in accordance with clinical guidelines
  • Assisting with prior authorizations and improving medication access through financial assistance programs
  • Monitoring medication therapy for effectiveness, safety, and optimization
  • Helping improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital readmissions

Specialty Pharmacy Services provides individualized care for patients with complex conditions such as HIV, transplant, pulmonary diseases, and autoimmune disorders. Residents work alongside embedded pharmacists and technicians to:

  • Conduct disease state assessments
  • Provide medication education and adherence support
  • Assist with prior authorizations and financial assistance
  • Monitor therapy effectiveness and safety

Alaina Willcutt, Pharm.D.

Dr. Alaina Willcutt is a PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Resident with the UAMS Outpatient Residency Program. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 2025, following her undergraduate studies at Arkansas Tech University. Dr. Willcutt is passionate about providing accessible, patient-centered care in the outpatient setting and is excited to expand her clinical and ambulatory care skills during her residency. In her free time, she enjoys golfing and spending time outdoors with her dogs and being with her family.
