The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock is the only academic health sciences university in the state of Arkansas. It is the home to many specialty clinics and a 535-bed hospital. Colleges of medicine, nursing, physician assistant, and public health are also on site.
Throughout your core rotations, you’ll develop relationships with patients and providers as you learn to manage chronic disease states independently. You’ll be involved in the education of pharmacy students, medical students, and resident physicians and will learn the basics of starting a new practice.

Little Rock Clinics
Family Medical Center
Pediatric, adult, and geriatric. 59% Black, 32% White.
Responsibilities: Practice under CPA, curbside consults, didactic teaching to medical residents.
Thomas and Lyon Longevity Clinic
Geriatric (65+ years). 68% White, 27% Black.
Responsibilities: Perform medication reviews, obtain point-of-care INR readings and adjust warfarin, curbside consults.
12th Street Health and Wellness Center
Uninsured. Adult, pediatric. 52% Spanish-speaking.
Responsibilities: Precept interprofessional teams of students including pharmacy, medicine, nursing, and physician assistant.
Internal Medicine Clinic at UAMS
Adult medicine. 55% White, 38% Black.
Responsibilities: Practice under CPA, collaborate with interdisciplinary team to manage high-risk patients, co-precept pharmacy students.
Elective Learning Experiences
Residents may choose from Academia (longitudinal or block), HIV Specialty, Infectious Disease, Outpatient Hematology/Oncology, Hepatology, Women’s Health, Med-Peds, and VA Patient Aligned Care Team. The resident may also select any of the core areas as an advanced elective experience. Additional elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability.
